Corium was set up by two dermatologists who were tired of a model where the
examination is squeezed into ten minutes and everything interesting gets
referred somewhere else. We built the practice the other way round.
Every consultation is with a consultant dermatologist — not a trainee, not a
nurse working to a protocol. First visits are thirty minutes because a skin
history that is rushed produces a diagnosis that is wrong.
We do our own dermoscopy, our own surgery and our own dermatopathology
reporting. That is unusual and it is deliberate: when the person who examined
the lesion is in the same building as the person reading the slide, questions
get answered in an afternoon instead of a fortnight.
What we do not do: package deals, course pre-payments,
treatments we have talked you into, or a single laser device sold to every
skin type that walks in. If you do not need something, we say so and you go
home.
